Should i read vampire diaries

The blurb tells you that there's a love triangle. The only love triangle at the moment is the one between the Salvatore brothers and Katherine. Which happened, like, centuries ago. I'm still intrigued about what will happen with Elena and the Salvatore brothers, though. Okay, yes, this book was predictable, cheesy, with bland characters and plot-less, but I still want to know what will happen next.

That's my explanation for the rating I gave for this book. EDIT: The rating is now 2 stars after some consideration. One thing, though: The ending was so messy.

That's not a cliffhanger, that is just being lazy! I'm thinking that I made a really big mistake. Oh, well. View all 6 comments. Jan 27, J. Stroube rated it really liked it Shelves: vampire-immortals-succubus , series , young-adult , favorites. After reading this book for the fifth or sixth time, I still enjoyed it!

It reminds me of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I have about a million positive things to say and only one negative: Elena says "I love you" too quickly. The fact that such a serious statement is made at such an early stage in the book I love you is not something to be taken lightly, and when said too early it makes me think of puppy love, not undying love. Other than that single annoyance It was written years before Twilight and I wonder if Stephenie Meyer may have gotten some of her ideas from this series.

Elena is somewhat pretentious in the beginning, but blossoms throughout the book. Her obssession turns to devotion, and her conceited demeanor transforms into a singleminded determination to become someone worthy.

Stefan plays the part of the wounded soul. He believes that he is no longer worthy of happiness, and instead seeks to blend into society only to find acceptance in Elena. Damon is an captivating character. Even in the first installment of this series, it is difficult to dislike him.

He is the embodiment of sexuality and temptation that only becomes more appetizing in the later parts of the series. I fully recommend this book to anyone who has a fondness for love triangles, and the supernatural. As always, I'm gonna read the first and not continue, this series seemes to never finish and honestly after reading this first book I can tell that the tv series must be better tahn the book. This was boring and not that intriguing. Not interested.

Less of a review and more of me venting, sorry. You've been warned. I was thinking of starting this off by saying The Awakening reads like fanfiction, but. I'm pretty sure the only reason I got through The Awakening was because I came to the conclusion that Elena has narcissistic personality disorder. On the first day back at school, Elena sees Stephan and decides she's going to have him , even "if it killed her. If it killed both of them, she'd have h Less of a review and more of me venting, sorry.

If it killed both of them, she'd have him. And also, what, does Stefan not have any say in the matter? I guess not. Apparently he's the first guy to not automatically start fawning all over her. Without a glance. She couldn't remember how long it had been since a boy had done that. They all looked, at least. Some whistled. Some stopped to talk. Some just stared. That is literally all that happens. She turns in her seat and smiles at him and he looks down at his desk. Elena decides this means Stefan thinks he's better than everyone else.

Because of course, it's not possible he's actually shy or anything. And then her and Stefan kiss and she tells him she loves him. Two vampire brothers fighting over a human girl. The TV show is popular enough; if the book had been done right, it might've been popular too, albeit a little cliche. But the bad writing and terrible characterization were too hard to overlook.

There is a very, very slim chance I'll read the rest of the series. First yes I get why they have this cover, but when she has dark hair and Elena has blonde, it's just weird. Elana fancies a boy, the boy Stefan is a vampire, she wants him, he is scared for her sake, they get together. That was the short version. First, 17 year old girl, year old vampire, eww. Ok to the story. I didn't like Elena. She was the most beautiful girl at school, she was the most popular, everyone loved her.

The one boy doesn't acknowledge her and she burst into tears and her world I destroyed. And I am supposed to like her? She is a spoiled brat, but oh no, there is something that is there so she will not be too perfect, she is an orphan. The book was, meh. View all 4 comments. Okay so I remember back when Netflix had at least the first 3 seasons of this show on there or maybe 2?

I on the other hand saw the first 20 minutes of it and my curiosity piqued especially after seeing the gorgeous sexy Salvatore brothers haha and I started on episode 1 and just kept going and been watching live after the season that was on netflix. So t Okay so I remember back when Netflix had at least the first 3 seasons of this show on there or maybe 2?

So that's when I found out not long after it was a book series back in '91 when I was born and thought, "why not try the first book? I swear they're running out of storyline and I did go into the second book and felt it didn't have much of a story But if you like these kinds of books go for it but to me, it was a lot more cheesy than Twilight and not my favorite.

I didn't even bother with the other 4 or the rest it was that bad for me Enough said haha That was brutal. How did they make a show of this again? I mean, I know the show is cheesy and all, but this Lee High School whose only goal in life is to get boys. Totally sounds like someone an old world vampire would want, right? Stefan is so blah and boring though, he probably needs some immaturity in his life. Damon, hmm Their lips touched, grazed from the sound of it, and she knew it was love.

After their leg-popping kiss, they "looked into each other's eyes with wondering joy". Less than 24 hrs later, she's telling him she loves him. And to top it all off, Stefan thinks our special snowflake is a tigress with insides of steel. I'll stick to Ian Somerhalder thank you View all 27 comments.

Apr 11, Kim M rated it it was ok Shelves: listened-to-audiobook , female-authors , paranormal , the-movie-was-better , ya , read-it-and-seen-it. Since when had she been scared of anything? She stood up and angrily thrust her arms into a red silk kimono. Elena Gilbert, cool and blonde and slender, the fashion trendsetter, the high school senior, the girl every boy wanted and every girl wanted to be. Elena owns the school. Some whistled, some stopped to talk, some just stared, and that had always been fine with Elena.

After all, what was more important than boys? They were the mark of how popular you were, how beautiful you were, and they could be useful for all sorts of things. Poor, poor Elena. The Awakening is the story of an exceedingly privileged high school girl who falls insta-in-love with the new kid in town, who just so happens to be a year-old vampire. Oh wait, you say? Elena already has a really hot, popular, and kind boyfriend? Well yes, but she dumped him the moment something hotter came to town.

Poor Matt. Anyway, so, Elena and friends start making up lies and spreading rumors and demanding favors from the lesser humans at the school who would do anything for the attention of the queen and her court.

But really because Damon. It was all for you, buddy. My quotes are probably not punctuated correctly because I copied them down from the audiobook. S I have no problem with a beautiful, popular, privileged character. At least not in book 1. Anyone notice how similar her heroines are? With the exception of Jenna being nicer than Elena, they could be the same person. Both perfect, beautiful blondes who are popular and make every man—including evil ones—fall desperately in love with them.

Apr 15, Anne rated it did not like it Shelves: dropped. Well, I didn't like this book. Not at all. I read half of the book and then got really really bored so I scanned the pages til the end. I was both relieved and disappointed. Disappointed because the book wasn't good. I did not like the characters - especially Elena. And relieved because I was saved from another half a day of pure stupidity.

Elena's obsession with the Stefan was just too annoying plus there were a bunch of stupidly infuriating scenes that were so, well.. Ta Well, I didn't like this book. Take the ribbon she left on the cemetery for example. Because she found out that Stefan has been keeping it, she just stupidly jumped into the conclusion that 'he has always loved me,' 'oh my god!

I was like: What the hell was that? O Poor Elena. Oh well I have no intention of actually reading this book til the end nor am I anticipating to read the succeeding books.

I might as well start reading other books that actually make sense. Nov 20, Lexi rated it it was ok Shelves: dnf. What a history lesson. Aug 28, PM. I have heard a lot of people say the tv show is way better. My sister read the first book and didn't like it, she is a huge fan of the tv series. A lot of people say big differences. Is it workth the read? Aug 31, AM. Halley - I really enjoyed the first four. I wonder why L. J Smith let that ghostwriter to write new ones?

I mean, it's really not the same and I didn't enjoy the next books. Hailey wrote: "I have heard a lot of people say the tv show is way better. I got season 1 of the Vamp Diaries for Easter, like, two years ago.

After watching season 1 and before season 3, I read the books. I didn't like them. Damon was a view spoiler [bad guy hide spoiler ] in those books any way you slice it and I love Damon, so, yeah. Also, book four didn't make sense to me. And I hear there's, like, a dozen novella's and spin-off books, but I haven't read them. I'm just not interested. I think the tv show is better.

Definitly prefer the TV Show to the books! The books are too confusing and drag on for too long. I got about a quarter of th way through Midnight, was severely bored and lost so I gave up tring to finish it. The first 3 books are by far the best. You can watch the show and not read the books Or Vice-versa and it wouldn't matter because they are like two complete different series but with the same name and characters. If you have a lot of time on your hands and like boring, confuing books then give them a shot otherwise just stick to the show, you wont be missing much.

I read this book first and i liked it.. So i think the tv show is wayyyyyy better than the books Parent of a 3, 5, 7, and 9-year-old Written by 6whittingtons November 20, This was a light read and the characters were all straight forward, no complexities. As already mentioned Elena is incredibly self centered, it is pointed out to her in book, and shallow. Stefen who is supposed to be the good vampire, ie doesn't kill humans, in the end is just as selfish as Elena and goes on a killing spree.

I agree that this is more of a horror-romance series than a straight romance. If you like the show you probably won't like the book, they are nothing alike. The show gives Elena many good qualities that are absent in the books. Adult Written by Chrissy October 17, Really good but a bit inappropriate. I actually really like this book. Read it its way better than common sense makes it sound.

Just because the characters are more complex, and have good and bad sides doesn't mean they are evil.
